Vegetation and habitat surveys

We undertake standard botanical and vegetation surveys for all habitats, including woodland, grassland, heathland, fen and mire. This includes National Vegetation Classification (NVC), which is the standard technique for sampling and classifying plant communities in Britain.

We also undertake surveys for aquatic plants (macrophytes) using standard aquatic macrophyte survey techniques such as the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) method, the Mean Trophic Rank method and the LEAFPACS method.

Where non-native invasive plant species such as Japanese knotweed or Himalayan balsam are present, we can design and implement an appropriate invasive plant species removal and eradication programme.

We also undertake monitoring for agri-environment schemes and Common Standards Monitoring (CSM) and Condition Assessments of designated sites, such as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) and Special Areas of Conservation (SACs).
