Principal Ecologists and Biologists are our main link with clients; you would manage the relationships, checking all the time that we are providing an excellent service, winning further project work, line managing a team and developing senior consultants. A principal ecologist is able to manage projects worth £1m and over routinely, producing ecology chapters for EIAs, HRAs and delegating EPSLs and survey management smoothly.

A Principal Ecology Consultant's view:

No two days are ever the same as we provide the whole spectrum of ecological services for a wide diversity of projects from large national infrastructure projects to small local developments. Even after over 30 years as a professional ecologist, I still find the work challenging and exciting, finding sustainable solutions to our clients' often unique development issues. An important part of my role is to lead and develop our staff. With such a large annual graduate recruitment programme, we have many enthusiastic young ecologists, eager to learn and develop, and I really enjoy working with them and feed off their enthusiasm and energy and in return provide my experience. While we are divided into teams and across different regional offices for business purposes, we all work together on a day to day basis, helping and supporting each other and sharing expertise and experience. Being able to call upon such a large number of staff and such a breadth and depth of expertise means we have the capacity and capability to tackle any project.
