GIS mapping and environmental data management
GIS mapping and environmental data management
Thomson Ecology offers a full range of GIS services.
We have dedicated and highly experienced GIS analysts who can source and work with initial data, undertake appropriate analysis and then supply and map the results in the formats that you require.
Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are used to analyse and record the relationships and patterns which occur within spatial data. The use of GIS in ecology and environmental disciplines aids decision making, conservation and provides supporting material and evidence for legislative obligations. Thomson Ecology works on a wide range of GIS projects. We use ArcGis systems.
Data
We source, collect and digitise a wide range of data, from traditional background mapping to bespoke datasets and satellite and aerial imagery. Data from different sources can be combined and structured to give datasets that increase efficiency and improve visual representation through a variety of ArcGis mapping techniques.
Analysis
GIS mapping and GIS analysis can reduce the effort needed for surveys and improve the knowledge and understanding of an area. The GIS analysts use buffering and proximity methodologies to identify features within set distances, as required for planning proposals. Techniques such as spatial overlay are employed to allow a series of themes and criteria to be interpreted together, as well as in isolation, allowing you to compare the viability of different sites. Analysis of population distribution and trends can also be undertaken, allowing you to make informed decisions, in respect to their importance and abundance.
Results
Information is presented in a format that meets your needs and which is suitable to the data and project. We have the flexibility within a ArcGis project to display your results as models, paper maps, tables, presentation slides or on other mediums to suit your requirements.
