Thomson Ecology supports WWT

Staff at Thomson Ecology, Thomson Habitats and Thomson Unicomarine have voted to support WWT (Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust) for the next year.

The WWT is a conservation charity that saves wetlands and is one of the world’s leading science and conservation institutions in its field. They have nine wetland centres throughout the British Isles, comprising 3000 hectares of the best wildlife-watching land in the UK.

Wetlands are close to our hearts as both Thomson Ecology and Thomson Habitats have worked on several wetland creation and restoration projects. These have included the creation of wetland at Crossness Nature Reserve in London, which involved excavating, lining and planting reed beds covering 1.5ha area, and great crested newt translocation and habitat creation at the Steart Peninsula in Somerset as part of the flood defence scheme and wetland habitat creation project for the Environment Agency.

Sadly, England has lost 90 per cent of its wetlands in the last 400 years, so the staff at Thomson Ecology, Habitats and Unicomarine are delighted to do what we can to help through various fund-raising events throughout the coming year.
