Sheerwater Regeneration Project

Our arboricultural team have been heavily involved in a large regeneration project at Sheerwater in Woking – helping our client to gain planning permission for the site.

The site has many complex arboricultural issues which we have been able to overcome. The scheme involves the demolition of 576 residential units, as well as non-residential buildings and sports facilities. The site will be re-developed to provide a mixed-use development comprising up to 922 residential units, a community centre, a nursery, a leisure centre, retail space, health centre and areas of soft landscaping.

As part of our works we

  • Carried out a survey of up to 500 trees using mobile mappers
  • Attended project meetings with the client, landscape architect, planning agent, and the LPA (Local Planning Authority) Tree Officer
  • Produced an Arboricultural Impact Assessment (AIA) and an Arboricultural Method Statement (AMS) for submission to the LPA
  • Proposed phasing of the works and phasing of the AMS, allowing for re-inspection at each stage of the development, and ensuring that the methodology could be amended and updated as the scheme progressed
  • Recommended arboricultural supervision for the construction phases within the Root Protection Areas (RPAs) of retained trees

The scheme successfully gained planning permission in July 2017, with full permission expected to be received later this year from Woking Borough Council.

“Thomson Ecology played a vital role in this project, and were instrumental in helping us to get planning permission and sign off from the Local Authority Tree Officer. The Arboricultural team at Thomson were fully aligned with our aims throughout the project, and were able to create an innovative solution that satisfied all project stakeholders. Throughout the project, they’ve met our tight deadlines and constantly evolving requirements. I would not hesitate to use them again on other projects.” Ruth Jones, CampbellReith
