Freshwater invertebrates

We identify aquatic invertebrates and calculate indices of water quality including the Biological Monitoring Working Party (BMWP) Score, Average Score per Taxon (ASPT), LIFE and River Invertebrate Prediction and Classification System (RIVPACS).

Marine macroinvertebrates

The analysis of macrobenthic samples is a speciality of Thomson Unicomarine. We routinely handle large numbers of samples and we have the capacity to respond to the demands of rapid turnaround and the ability to meet short deadlines. In recent years we've processed around 2000 benthic samples per year. Read more

Marine video & stills analysis

Epibenthic survey using video and stills photography as a tool to identify marine species and habitat types (biotopes) is becoming widely used by both commercial and government clients. Since its first use, our taxonomists have provided a service in the analysis of video and stills, both on-board vessels and back at our laboratory facility. Our use of the most up-to-date software and technology ensures we can conduct the analysis as efficiently as possible. Read more

Particle size analysis (PSA)

Sediment samples for particle size analysis are processed in our specially designed wash room, which allows for secure work flows and sample integrity. Samples are evaluated using standard (ISO3310-1/BS410-1) half-phi sieves and our Malvern Mastersizer 2000 laser diffraction analyser, according to NMBAQC Scheme Best Practice Guidance. Read more
