Quality assurance

We take quality control very seriously and we follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all laboratory processes.

We work for a variety of private and government clients. The fish component of the NE Atlantic Marine Biological Analytical Quality Control (NMBAQC) scheme was awarded to us based on our technical ability and high regard to quality.

The fish component of the NMBAQC scheme has two main tests for participating labs:

Ring Test – the aim of this test is to establish any variation in inter-laboratory identification of fish specimens and attempts to find the cause of any errors. We work to minimise differences in identification by ensuring participants use the same keys. We also permit laboratories to keep ring test specimens so they can have their own fish reference collection. The participating laboratories are required to identify each of the Ring Test specimens to species.

Reverse Ring Test – this is the same as the Ring Test, except that each participant chooses their own identified samples and sends them to us to verify. During each period, participants are asked to provide 15 samples for verification. Each sample includes the species name, photos and details of keys used for identification.
