As a Local Authority how can we contribute towards target NI 197 in the Local Government Performance Framework?
National Indicator 197 measures the performance of local authorities for biodiversity by assessing the implementation of positive conservation management of Local Sites - including both those owned by the local authority and other non-statutory sites of nature conservation value.
The influence local authorities can have on biodiversity should not be underestimated; the target could be met by developing a co-ordinated management strategy for all local sites under ownership. For example this could include changing the approach to management of grassland areas to allow more natural meadow grasslands to develop, or perhaps introducing targeted clearance of non-native species that once present tend to dominate habitats that would otherwise be of nature conservation and amenity value.
Expert advice from an ecologist will help ensure that your management is having a positive effect and contributing to the target. For more information, please call us on 01483 466000.
