Thomson Ecology has been commissioned to advise on ecology and carry out surveys for the 700 acre Lodge Hill site in Chattenden, Kent. Land Securities, selected by Defence Estates as Land Sale Delivery Partner, is developing a masterplan and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the site,  which has the potential to create in the region of 5,000 new homes, together with community facilities and new employment opportunities over the next 20 years. With the input of Thomson Ecology and other specialist consultancies, Land Securities will gather and use this information to inform the emerging Core Strategy for the area and the planning application process.

By bringing in ecological consultants at the start, Land Securities is able to build biodiversity into the Lodge Hill masterplan .  So far, Thomson Ecology has carried out an extended Phase I survey and desk study, tree surveys, scarce plants surveys, wintering and breeding bird surveys, badger and bat surveys, habitat suitability surveys for great crested newts and dormice, water vole and reptile surveys. As a result, Thomson Ecology has made recommendations that have been incorporated into the development proposals. Ecological Management Plans are also being prepared to minimise disruption to any protected species found on the site.
