Principal Freshwater Aquatic Ecologist

Full time, permanent

We are looking for a technical specialist to join our water team – if you are a freshwater aquatic ecologist, with experience in the analysis and interpretation of aquatic ecology indices describing the status or health of a river system we would love to hear from you!

The role

As a Freshwater Aquatic Ecologist you will be responsible for supporting the technical delivery of aquatic ecology projects, including project managing the field and reporting element of macroinvertebrate, diatom and phytoplankton work streams, and supporting the delivery of fish population monitoring and fish rescue work, undertaking river ecology habitat scores and supporting other water projects such as hydrology or laboratory based projects. You will have technical expertise in macroinvertebrate identification, the use of the River Invertebrate Classification Tool (RICT), working with the Biological Monitoring Working Party (BMWP) and Average Score Per Taxon (ASPT) scoring methods and / or have experience in using the Whalley Hawkes Paisley Trigg (WHPT) metric.

This is a key role in our water team. You will be leading the technical and commercial delivery of our aquatic ecology consultancy and therefore you will need to be experienced in generating revenue and profit, undertaking business development, preparing quotes and tenders and building client relationships. You will be a technical expert and capable of writing accurate and concise technical reports.

Supported by our own in-house aquatic laboratory team of world class taxonomists who are at the leading edge of their scientific disciplines, with over 30 years’ commercial experience in analysis - you will have all the services available in-house to deliver the full suite of aquatic ecology consultancy services.

This is a permanent position based at our head office on the picturesque Surrey Research Park. The successful candidate will live within commuting distance of Guildford or be prepared to relocate.
