Capturing my imagination

Thursday, December 15, 2016

I like being connected to the news. Most days I listen on my way into work and on my way home, and am attentive to all of the analysis and opinions. However, my interest in this connection has waned. I can feel the anger in the world weighing me down, letting the negativity seep through my mind. The darkness from our surroundings compounds this effect and I feel a little depressed about what the future holds.

However a few rays of sunlight have come through: Golden Eagle numbers are on the rise (15%!), the cirl bunting population suggests a remarkable recovery from 118 pairs in 1989 to 1078 pairs in 2016, world leaders ratifying the Paris climate change agreement…

I feel most heartened when watching Planet Earth II with its amazing footage and truly inspiring stories. It leaves me feeling positive about the (natural) world around me. Whilst we have devastated some of the natural world, there is still so much out there that needs to be preserved to ensure future generations can truly benefit from planet Earth.

So when the doom and gloom surrounds me, I know where to find this ray of sunshine.
